**Absarokee Elementary School Boosts Literacy with New Book Vending Machine**
Absarokee Elementary School is proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art book vending machine on its premises, aimed at promoting a love for reading among its students. This exciting addition is creating a buzz of enthusiasm for literacy within the school community.
Generously funded by a private donor in collaboration with the school's own resources, the book vending machine is a creative initiative to make reading more accessible and enjoyable for students. The Stillwater Boosters played an important role by awarding a $500 grant specifically earmarked for the purchase of the initial books to stock the vending machine.
Additionally, the school has been honored to receive a generous $3,000 grant from the Susan Scott Heyneman Foundation, earmarked for replenishing the book vending machine. With a mission dedicated to bolstering philanthropic initiatives across the Great Northern Plains, particularly in the realms of Humanities, Community Support, Environment, and Performing and Fine arts, the Foundations support will significantly enhance the educational and cultural landscape of our institution.
The Elementary School has implemented a unique system where students can earn tokens by demonstrating positive behavior and leadership skills. These tokens can then be used to select books from the vending machine, creating a rewarding experience that encourages good conduct and a passion for reading.
Kenady Royce (1st/2nd grade teacher) who coordinated the book vending machine project stated, "I saw the book vending machine and thought our students would love this. At Absarokee Elementary, we are focused on embracing a culture of reading. The book vending machine will help to motivate our students and make books more accessible to all our students. I’m grateful for the support of our community to make this dream a reality. I am thrilled to see the positive benefits of the vending machine and help to foster a love of reading in our kids.”
Jessica Griffin, Elementary Principal, expressed enthusiasm about community involvement. "We believe that fostering a love for reading should extend beyond the school walls. If community members are interested in making donations or contributing new/gently used books to fill our vending machine, we encourage them to get in touch with us. Your support can make a significant impact on the reading experiences of our students."
For those interested in donating books or learning more about the initiative, please contact us at the elementary school.
